Introduction

Driving is a complex activity that involves factors associated with the driver, the vehicle, and the road and traffic environment. Traffic collision surveys tend to show that human factors are the most prevalent contributory factor in traffic accidents.

Preventing accidents from occurring is the most effective means to improve road safety. It is also the most difficult and complex task to accomplish. The causes of traffic accidents are many and complex, but studies show that 96% of all accidents involve some form of driver error. Thus, the most effective means to prevent accidents from occurring is the improvement of driver skills through training programs.

The analysis of road accidents indicates that novice drivers are over-represented in road accidents. Specific studies have shown that in many countries the objectives of driver instruction are aimed at the driver license examination rather than road safety. Often it is mistakenly assumed that the examination is an end in itself of the ultimate stage in the development of a safe driver.

The learner should realize that even the best exam results are not a guarantee of life-long safe driving. Skids R Us continues the learning process, improving driver awareness and contributing to the safety of not only the driver but their passengers and other road users.

Our Aims

Target groups
  • For people who want to get to their destination safely.
Aims
  • Teach candidates to recognise potential skid situations
  • Correct assessment of road conditions and other road users
  • Stimulate and improve participants understanding of modern vehicle dynamics
  • Enhance recognition of different types of skid that may occur
  • Knowledge of the physical limits at speed and on ice and snow
  • Enhance recognition and perception of hazards
  • Safe handling and the right reactions to avoid skidding
  • Develop car control techniques to enable the student to react correctly in a skid situation to bring the vehicle back under control
  • Breaking down the fear of skidding
  • Develop risk management to reduce stress and improve personal and public safety.
Programme
  • Theory about road engineering, aquaplaning, weather conditions and the right equipment for your vehicle
  • Training for critical situations in difficult road conditions
  • Surviving incorrect driver reactions without danger
  • Training the right reaction to prevent the worst from happening when a vehicle skids
  • Steering, accelerating, braking, braking in bends, evasive braking
  • Becoming sensitive to feel the start of a skid
